The Principal reports:
Welcome back after a well-deserved half term break.
I continue to be amazed by our young people and their attitudes, not only towards their academic studies but the fact that many of them go above and beyond our expectations. Here are some examples:
Year 11 student Luke Martin has recently rubbed shoulders with popstars, actors and sports personalities when he stood in the guard of honour at the Pride of Britain Awards. Luke was selected from his Air Cadets unit for his continued excellent service to the Air Cadets.
Year 10 student Alicia Whent recently attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards where she spoke about the benefits of becoming a Youth Leader, as well as giving very positive feedback to the attendees about Colchester Academy and the events we hold.
Year 10 students Martha Bullen, Libby Burden, Sinead Kelly, Lucy Rimington and Limara Sansum who all passed their qualifying expedition for Duke of Edinburgh.
Year 10 Student Lucy Sturgess participated in the 54 miles London to Brighton cycle race, helping to raise funds for the blood cancer charity Bloodwise.
This is another busy half term for our young people, Year 11 students will be sitting their mock examinations in preparation for their final exams next summer. We wish them all the best of luck.
To support Year 11 students we will be hosting two events:
- Year 11 Parents’ Information Evening on Thursday 23 November
- Year 11 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 7 December
Our Year 10 students will also be preparing for their English Literature exam which they will sit next summer.
The Performing Arts department are planning their annual X Factor Challenge which will take place in December and we look forward to hearing the musical talent of our young people.
We will also be preparing for Christmas and serving Christmas lunch on Wednesday 13 December whilst getting in the festive spirit supporting Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 15 December.
As Principal of Colchester Academy I am committed to providing a first class educational experience for our community. I am delighted to announce that from January Colchester Academy will be working in partnership with Just Imagine Day Nursery and Out of School Club.
The nursery will be operating a full service to our community and details of this provision are available from our office.
